Air Conditioner Maintenance
Why is air conditioning maintenance important?
According to the department of energy, an air conditioner’s filters, coils, and fins require regular maintenance for the unit to function effectively and efficiently throughout its years of service. Neglecting necessary maintenance ensures a steady decline in air conditioning performance while energy use steadily increases.
All of our maintenance Customers get priority during hot summer months! We will come to you first!
Here are some tips to use for at home maintenance.
Your outside unit (condenser) can collect dirt and grime over their months and years of service.
Outdoor condenser coils can also become very dirty if the outdoor environment is dusty or if there is foliage nearby. You can easily see the condenser coil and notice if dirt is collecting on its fins.
You should minimize dirt and debris near the condenser unit. Your dryer vents, falling leaves, and lawn mower are all potential sources of dirt and debris. Cleaning the area around the coil, removing any debris, and trimming foliage back at least 2 feet (0.6 meters) allow for adequate airflow around the condenser.
To properly clean your outdoor unit, turn off the circuit breaker to your unit, wash coils with low pressure water from garden hose. Start on one side and clean all the way around your unit.

Most companies will charge you up to $300 to change a simple air filter, that you can do yourself. It’s as EASY as taking out the old filter and replacing it with a new one.
This is the most important task that will ensure the efficiency of your air conditioning system.
Clogged, dirty filters reduce the amount of airflow and significantly reduce a system’s efficiency. In addition, when airflow is obstructed, air can bypass the filter and deposit dirt directly into the evaporator coil and impair the coil’s heat-absorbing capacity. Replacing a dirty, clogged filter with a clean one can lower your air conditioner’s energy consumption by 5% to 15%.
For central air conditioners, filters are generally located somewhere along the return duct’s length. Common filter locations are in walls, ceilings, or in the air conditioner itself. Room air conditioners have a filter mounted in the grill that faces into the room.
Some types of filters are reusable; others must be replaced. They are available in a variety of types and efficiencies. Clean or replace your air conditioning system’s filter or filters every month or two during the cooling season. Filters may need more frequent attention if the air conditioner is in constant use, is subjected to dusty conditions, or you have fur-bearing pets in the house.
Why Does Maintenance Matter
When thinking of air conditioning and heating maintenance, think of other things you maintain. Like your car! Your car needs frequent maintenance in order to run properly and so does your air conditioning and heating units! The proper maintenance whether done by you, or by a professional is important! REMEMBER, It is NEVER too late to start maintaining your air conditioning unit. You can start anytime! Most of the very expensive repairs are coming from units that have been neglected to be maintained. But a helpful recommendation would be to do it in the spring before the HOT summer! Here are some reasons why you want to keep your unit maintained:
One of the most important things you can do for your unit is make sure you have a clean air filter. The frequency in which you change your filter depends on how often you use your unit and other factors in your home. A clean filter and a clean system will positively impact the air quality in your home.
Maintenance keeps your system running like new!
It has shown that consistent maintenance and keeping your unit clean prevents it from working too hard and consuming more energy.
You paid a lot of money for your unit. You want to make sure it lasts a long time. Maintenance is going to be the extra step you need to take in order to keep your unit last.
Performing maintenance on your air conditioning unit ensures that problems are caught before they become a Big and Expensive Problem. Maintenance ensures that a professional is checking out your system to see that it is in good shape.
Every unit, no matter what brand installed comes with a manufacturer warranty. If a part breaks you could get a replacement part for free under the warranty. There are, however, terms to the warranty that must be met. One of the terms of the warranty is annual maintenance. You want to make sure that you keep up on this maintenance in case you ever need to use your warranty.
